Dr. Nicole Ward Gauthier Professional Title: Extension Specialist in Plant Pathology, University of Kentucky Nicole Ward Gauthier holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Plant Pathology at the University of Kentucky. She is responsible for outreach and research of diseases of ornamentals, fruit crops, and hemp across the state. As part of her Extension duties, Nicole provides growers with disease management recommendations including the identification, biology, and management of pathological organisms. Her publications range from traditional fact sheets to spray guides and social media updates – all of which are intended to provide growers and other professionals with quick disease management solutions. Dr. Ward Gauthier earned her BS in Horticulture Science and her PhD in Plant Pathology from Louisiana State University. She also owned her own landscape business in Louisiana, in which she installed landscapes, irrigation, low voltage lighting, and water features. She joined the UK College of Agriculture in 2011. Bob Hogan Professional Title: The Hogan Seed Company, owner Bob Hogan is the owner of The Hogan Seed Company in Springfield Tennessee. Established 20 years ago as a distributor of quality seed and turf products specializing in unique seed blends for golf courses, municipalities, sod farms, landscapers, farmers and homeowners throughout the US. He is a past President of the Tennessee Seedmen’s Association, Tennessee Turfgrass Association and the Austin Pea State University Alumni Association. He has served as a board member of numerous industry organizations including the Kentucky Turfgrass Council, Tennessee Valley Sports Turf Managers Association, Quad State Turfgrass Association, and Middle Tennessee Golf Course Superintendents Association in addition to currently serving as a County Legislator, Minister of his church and husband for 37 years to his wife Connie Hogan. Whitney Baker Professional Title: Chief Horticulturalist, Kelly Nursery Whitney Baker is from Bell County, Kentucky and holds degrees in Mathematics and Studio Art from Lincoln Memorial University, with prizes in Creative Writing and Non-Fiction Writing. He has lived in Lexington since 1993, and has worked in horticulture since 1989 as a grower, commercial account manager, designer, and estate gardener. Largely self-educated, Mr. Baker's passion is for integrated design emphasizing native plants and locally sourced materials. |
Bernadette Mach
Professional Title: Graduate student in the Dept. of Entomology, University of Kentucky After graduating in 2013 with a BS in Organismal Biology, Bernadette Mach served as a Tennessee State Parks Seasonal Interpretive Ranger (SIR) at Bledsoe Creek State Park, Harrison Bay State Park, and as an AmeriCorps Appalachia CARES team member partnered with the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation and Tennessee State Parks. She is pursuing her master's degree in Entomology at University of Kentucky, where she is conducting a survey of bee assemblages in the urban landscape and investigating field realistic dosages of neonicotinoids. Jennifer Gulick Professional Title: Senior Urban Forestry Consultant, Davey Resource Group Jenny Gulick is a business developer and senior consulting urban forester responsible for assisting governments, businesses, utilities, and non-profit organizations with various project development and implementation plans specializing in urban forestry, park management, and land development programs. Ms. Gulick has managed and been a key contributor to diverse local and national projects. Jenny has over 30 years of experience and joined Davey Resource Group in 1999 after a successful career in municipal government. She is an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist and Municipal Specialist, an ISA Certified Tree Risk Assessor, and a Certified Forester as recognized by the Society of American Foresters. Jenny received a Bachelor of Science degree in forest resource management from West Virginia University and a Master of Arts degree in public administration from the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Brad D. Lee Professional Title: Associate Professor in the Dept. of Plant and Soil Sciences, University of Kentucky Brad Lee is a Water Quality Extension Specialist at the University of Kentucky and a Certified Professional Soil Scientist. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of California -Riverside in Soil and Water Sciences and was an Associate Professor and Land Use Extension Specialist at Purdue University prior to moving to Kentucky in 2009. Dr. Lee’s research and education interests include soil-landscape processes, soil water dynamics, and improving land use management strategies to reduce nutrient loads to waterways. Kent Slusher Professional title: State Forester with the Kentucky Division of Forestry Kent Slusher has worked for the Kentucky Division of Forestry since 1992 serving as a State Forester in central and eastern KY. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a BS in Forest Biology. His emphasis has always been on finding opportunities to grow healthy woodland. Since 2009 he has led the state in invasive plant removal cost share. |
